Combatting Loneliness in Old Age
According to Age UK statistics around 1 million older people will regularly go a month or more without speaking to another person. Half of all elderly people consider the television as their main form of company and 1 in 10 people over the age of 65 feel lonely often or all of the time.
Companionship is very important for everyone’s health and well-being. Extensive research has taken place investigating the dangers of loneliness and social isolation and lack of companionship can have a devastating effect on peoples health.
At The Service Tree we offer one to one companionship which can be tailored to the individual. This could mean taking them to their favourite park or accompanying them to their local church service, or just sitting and having a chat with a cup of tea and biscuit.
We also offer Day Socials in West Bridgford and Tollerton providing morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea between activities and entertainments such as music, dancing, exercise, guest speakers, craft workshops & pamper sessions. Our Day Social programme is particularly suited to those with dementia, limited mobility or who would benefit from greater, fully supported, social activities. It offers a friendly, relaxed atmosphere to sit, chat and catch up with friends.
We also run regular social events such as the ever popular River Cruise, or day trips to places of interest such as Chatsworth House. All our outings and events are fully accompanied and supported and offer much needed companionship and enrichment.
